November Ramblings

Get Your Ticket Now!

On Saturday, 30th November, 1pm (door opens 12.30pm) is our End of Year Celebration at the Commercial Travellers Club, 29 Moncur Drive, Rotorua. Since the committee decided to help the members with the cost of the lunch by contributing towards each ticket, the cost of $40 per person is the same as last year. You can get a ticket via our website or by calling into the office. We have to know the numbers by 20th November. Looking forward to seeing you all at our End of Year Lunch.

Slip, Slap, Slog and Wrap

As the sun gets hotter a reminder to Slip, Slop, Slap and Wrap. Dig out the sunhat and check that your sunscreen is handy and ready to protect you from the rays. I must confess that mine was 10 years out of date and required the purchase of a new bottle. You can find more information to being SunSmart at their website.

My Lawnmower Wrestle

Another month has whizzed by and we are feeling the warmer months - great, I am loving it. I also know that the grass is growing much quicker and is lush and green. Great if you are a farmer, but not for us townies that wrestle with the lawnmower. Maybe sharpening the blade would go a long way to reduce that.

Scam Warning: Online Shopping

As we come up to the festive season, a lot of us want to shop online and look for good bargains 🛍️🛒. Here’s a few tips to help you stay safe, avoid buying stolen property, and not get taken advantage of:

  • If it is too good to be true, it probably is, or it could be stolen property.

  • If it’s being sold as new, ask for the receipt for the warranty. If they can’t provide it, that’s a red flag.

  • Check the seller’s profile, is it new or relatively blank?

  • If you make a purchase and need to meet somebody to get it, choose somewhere well-lit and well populated in public, near CCTV. If it has to be somebody’s home, take someone with you and let someone else know where you’re going and when.

  • Be especially cautious when buying power tools or high-end toy brick building block sets.

If you find a suspect listing or social media scam, call 105, or report it with us online at 105.police.govt.nz
