Rotorua Inner City Safety – Bylaw and Policy Review - Consultation now OPEN

Rotorua Lakes Council is reviewing some of its bylaws and policies to help improve the safety and amenity of the Rotorua Inner-city. As part of the review, a full public consultation on the proposed changes opened on Tuesday, 1 July, and will close Friday 1 August 2025.

To help make the Rotorua inner-city safer and more welcoming, we’re proposing changes to the following:

  • Solid Waste Bylaw 2016

  • Traffic Bylaw 2018

  • General Bylaw 2017

  • The Dangerous, Affected and Insanitary Buildings Policy

These have all been identified as needing review for various reasons including: Prohibiting intimidating and other nuisance behaviours in public; cleaning our streets and public places of abandoned shopping trolleys; fixing potentially dangerous verandas and managing buildings that pose a risk to the health and safety of people and property.

This is an opportunity to share your thoughts and help improve inner-city safety in Rotorua.

Download the Information Sheet for further information on the proposals. Submit a response here: https://rlc.net.nz/citysafety
